Stop Harassing Phone Calls

Financial hardships can be very stressful.

The last thing you need is harassing phone calls from debt collectors to add to that stress.

Federal law protects you against deceptive and harassing debt collection practices. Congress passed the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) to protect consumers from debt collector harassment by prohibiting their bad behavior.

The FDCPA lists several examples of prohibited behavior, including:

  • Calling at unreasonable hours, i.e. before 8:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m.
  • Continuing to call consumers after they ask the collector to stop.
  • Constantly and repeatedly calling.
  • Calling consumers at their job.
  • Continuing to call after learning that the consumer is represented by an attorney.
  • Using misleading or false representations when trying to collect.
  • Using profane or abusive language in any communication.

If a debt collector does any of the above, you may be entitled to damages up to $1,000 and attorneys’ fees. If you think that a debt collector has violated your rights, please give me a call today.
